How to Measure
👗 How to Measure Yourself
Choosing the right size matters: a gown that fits properly is the difference between a dress you tolerate for one evening and one you forget you are wearing. These four measurements are enough, and you can take them at home.
You will need a tape measure and, ideally, someone to help.
1. Bust
Pass the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level across your back.
Breathe normally and hold the tape flat at underarm height — do not pull it tight.
2. Waist
Find the narrowest part of your torso, where your waist naturally curves in.
This usually sits two to three fingers above your navel.
Keep the tape snug against the body without compressing it.
3. Hip
Measure around the widest part of your hips.
Stand upright with your feet together.
4. Shoulder to hem (length)
Measure from the top of your shoulder straight down to the floor, wearing — or allowing for — the heels you plan to wear on the day.
For bridal gowns and long evening dresses this measurement is the critical one.
📏 A few tips
No tape measure? Use a piece of string or ribbon, mark the length, then measure it against a ruler.
Ask someone to help. Measurements taken by another person are noticeably more accurate.
If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one. A dress can be taken in; it cannot be let out.
